ABOUT THIS COURSE

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide an initial first aid response and ongoing casualty management in remote or isolated environments where access to emergency medical services may be delayed. The unit applies to individuals who work or operate in locations such as rural, agricultural, pastoral, or remote settings and who may be required to manage injuries or medical emergencies for extended periods.

COURSE CONTENT

This course provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid in remote or isolated situations where access to emergency medical services may be delayed. Training is delivered in accordance with current Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and workplace procedures. Course content includes:

COURSE COMPONENTS

ONLINE LEARNING / ASSESSMENT (UP TO 1 HOUR)

This online component of the course allows you to work through the theory-based assessment at your leisure prior to the practical assessment. Time to complete this component will vary depending on past knowledge and experience.

You will require access to the internet and a computer / phone / tablet to complete, but if you need assistance accessing these things please get in touch and we will work with you to find a solution.

PRACTICAL LEARNING / ASSESSMENT (14 HOURS / 2 DAYS)

The practical component involves hands-on training where participants will learn and practice the applied skills with a trainer there to observe and provide feedback.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

To successfully complete this unit, students must participate in all required training and assessment activities and demonstrate competence in accordance with the unit of competency and the Standards for RTOs 2025. Learners are required to engage in practical, hands-on training and assessment activities, including performing resuscitation and oxygen therapy skills on the floor in simulated or workplace environments that reflect real emergency response conditions.

Students must be physically capable of performing CPR and related manual tasks and be able to follow instructions and communicate effectively during emergency scenarios. Students must comply with Agri Training Solutions’ enrolment, attendance, and assessment requirements, and adhere to safety, infection control, and equipment use procedures relevant to rural and remote agricultural settings.

All course requirements are communicated to students prior to enrolment through the pre-training review process to ensure students understand expectations and are suitably prepared to undertake training and assessment.

ASSESSMENTS

There are three types of assessments you will be required to complete for this course:

  1. Online theory assessment
  2. Online Incident Report
  3. Demonstration of practical skills (face to face assessment)

[UPDATE???] If you are not satisfied with your assessment results it is best to discuss it with your trainer and assessor first to see if you can arrange a reassessment. If you still find you are dissatisfied, you can complete a Complaints and Appeals form and we will follow the process outlined in our Complaints and Appeals Policy (pdf) which is also in our Student Guide (pdf) and on our Student Resources page on our website.

CERTIFICATES

Upon successful completion of all required components, we will issue a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment (certificate) for the following:

Your certificate will be emailed as a PDF to your nominated email address within 5 business days of course completion, providing all competencies are met.

STUDENT SUPPORT

Support strategies are tailored to individual learner circumstances and may include assistance with language, literacy, numeracy and digital capability; flexible delivery and assessment arrangements; additional trainer support during practical activities; and access to learning resources in formats suitable for rural and remote delivery contexts.

Students are provided with direct access to trainers and assessors for clarification, guidance and feedback via face-to-face contact, phone or email. Where additional support needs are identified that fall outside the RTO’s scope, Agri Training Solutions provides referrals to appropriate external support services.
